There's only one guaranteed way to start saving money so you can fill up your online savings account. It's got nothing to do with winning the lottery (though that would help).
You have to spend less than you earn.
I had always read that, in our age of credit cards galore, saving was down. But I never realized how bad it was, until I saw the Personal Savings Rate for the average American.
It's less than zero.
So what does that mean?
People are spending beyond their means. They're buying things with money they don't have, going deeper into debt and making saving impossible.
So how can this be avoided? Live within your means.
Spend less than you earn, and you will save money.
