Online banking may still be in its infancy, but, according to a new study, kids are helping their parents log online to pay bills and even prepare their taxes.
The new study, "Surfin' on Mom's Turf: Cyber Chillin' With 8-14 Year-Olds," finds that bill payment, tax preparation and online shopping are all tasks kids are doing, reports Clickz (via digg).
Fourteen percent of respondents helped parents find tax forms on irs.gov and got information from the Web site. Kids also pitched in on banking and online bill payment tasks.
Kids helping their parents with the computer and the Internet isn't surprising at all, but it is interesting that banking and online bill payments make the list.
The biggest reason kids are helping their parents bank and do their taxes online?
Parents are "clueless," according to the press release.
In fact, more than 14% of the kids with internet access that responded said that they are planning to file their Mom's income tax return on line this year! That's in addition to the many traditional and not so traditional chores that kids are performing online to help their parents
