What's the fixation with wanting to retire early? So many personal finance questions deal with early retirement — it's made out to be such a big deal.
Can I retire early? What do I need to save each year to retire early?
Let's be serious. You don't want to retire early — you want to stop working for the man as soon as possible.
But you don't have to retire early to stop making money for someone else. You just need to start making money for yourself by running your own business.
When you're running a small business, presumably you're doing something that you enjoy and working for someone that you like. But you're not retired — you're still working.
The freedom and independence of working for yourself is the real draw that people seeking an "early retirement" want.
Sure, t ey may want to spend some time traveling or fishing, but even in retirement, people feel the need to stay busy.
Early retirement is not the answer. Finding your passion and turning it into a money-making activity is the answer. You'll be happy, busy and fulfilled — and not wanting to end the ride anytime soon.
