One of the best investments we made when we moved into our new place was to sign up with Vonage for our phone service.
For less than $30/month, we get unlimited minutes and unlimited long distance — and great features, like call forwarding, online voicemail access, and more.
Compared to other phone options in our area, we're making out great. It would cost more for just local service with a provider like Verizon. VoIP is one way the Internet can save you a lot of money immediately and in the long run.
Now, Vonage is offering a way to save even more money. If you pre-pay an entire year's worth of service, it costs only $239.99 — $60 less than it would if you pay monthly.
Paying for an entire year's worth of service isn't unusual in the VoIP field; Sunrocket, a competitor to Vonage, offers a $199 yearly plan.
The deal is only available to current customers and only until June 30. If you're interested, call 888-233-5116.
One more bit of Vonage news: apparently, they accept electronic checks as payment in addition to debit and credit cards.

I disagree with the use of Vonage, due to the huge lawsuit it lost. Clark Howard, a leading consumer advocate and financial wizard, has advised that Vonage is probably not the best investment right now.
Granted it is a gamble at this point, but definitely not something you would want to pay a year for without knowing for sure Vonage can handle the payout to Verizon.

You're right — if you're going to consider paying upfront for a year, it's worth keeping the lawsuit in mind.
It seems highly unlikely, however, that Vonage will go under just because of the lawsuit. They've cut back a lot on their marketing fees and replaced the CEO, though the new guy isn't much better.
Sunrocket just went down…
