Don't worry — it's not just you. Everyone has vices that they'd love to get rid of.
Whether it's smoking, eBay or DVDs, vices can cost you a lot of money if you don't keep them in control.
Here are the top 10 vices that cost me money:
- Graphic Novels
I used to read comic books as a kid and have always enjoyed the stories, and now that I have some disposable income, I like to buy graphic novels. In the past 3 years or so, I've purchased somewhere around 70 graphic novels, at an average cost between $15-$25. - DVDs
I have a huge DVD collection — somewhere around 200 DVDs. Thankfully, most of these were purchased a few years ago, and my spending has been under control recently. Now, if we want to watch a DVD, we get it from the library or rent it for $1 at Redbox. - Nintendo Wii Virtual Console Games
One of the reasons I got the Wii was because of the Virtual Console, which lets you download games from older Nintendo systems. It's awesome, but because it's so easy to purchase them and because you're using "Wii points," it's kind of addictive. - Technology
I've talked about why it's a bad idea to be an early adopter, but that hasn't always stopped me from getting caught up in the hype of a new technology and buying it, even if I don't really need it. - Speeding
I have to admit, sometimes I don't pay as much attention to my speed in the car as I should. Thankfully, I've been pretty lucky when it comes to run-ins with the law, but I know it could cost me dearly if I'm not more careful. - Wasting Time Online
Between trying to keep up my RSS feeds, spending time on YouTube and checking my email, I know that I spend a fair amount of unnecessary time online that I could be working or blogging. - Too Many TV Shows
I watch a lot of TV. Sometimes I wish I didn't watch as much as we do. If I could give up on one or two or three shows, I could spend more time doing something productive. This also hurts the wallet when you consider our cable bill. - Domain Names
I don't own as many domain names as I used to, but I do have a pretty good collection. Most of them stem from product and site ideas that I've had, most of which have never turned into anything. I justify a domain name purchase as an investment, should the product become a reality. - Chinese Food
Again, this is one vice that I've mostly gotten under control, but I love Chinese food. In college, I'd get it a least once a week — I've gotten it down to about once a month now. - Procrastination
Waiting to do things can be a real bad habit to overcome. This is one of the reasons I love online bill pay — I don't have to remember to pay my bills because they get paid automatically.
Okay, I've gotten my financial vices off my chest — what are yours?
